Pollen seeds give respiratory ailments to Baramulla people

BARAMULLA, May 21: Despite High Court directions for removal of Russian Poplar trees, the concerned authorities have failed to act causing respiratory ailments in Baramulla.
Locals told Early Times that the pollen seeds had caused allergies and other complications. The criticized the concerned authorities for failing to implement High Court orders.
There is an unprecedented presence of Russian poplars tr in Baramulla district and they have become a serious cause of concern among the students and small kids from past few weeks.
Locals said the few weeks ago, the Deputy Commissioner had ordered immediate removal of poplar trees of female Russian Species across the district.
The DC Baramulla had formed a team of nodal officers who were asked to ensure cutting of female Russian Poplar trees through designated committees including Social Forestry, and Flood Control Department.
All the revenue officers including Tehsildar's and BFO, have been directed to ensure compliance of the High Court directions in letter and spirit, while as nodal officers were appointed for their respective jurisdictions in this matter, said sources.
Bashir Ahmad from Langate area said that, Russian poplar trees have affected their lives from past few weeks , as they believe that pollen seeds of poplars of Russian species are adversely affecting health of general public, mostly of elderly people and children.
Reports from Bandipore are equaling disturbing. A local said it is not only giving tough time to the general public but it irritates the small school going kids, and many times it could become a cause of accident for two wheeler.
