Sajad Lone's dream of chief ministership lands in trouble

JAMMU, May 24: Separatist-turned-mainstream politician Sajad Lone who was dreaming of becoming the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir has got the reply from Kashmir, as none of the three constituencies of Parliament there voted for him to win.
The main shock for Sajad Lone has come from his hometown of north Kashmir seat where he was sure of emerging victorious in the said elections through his candidate Raja Aijaz Ali.
But National Conference leader Akbar Lone defeated Sajad Lone's candidate giving a message to the Peoples Conference, that Lone should stop dreaming about becoming the Chief Minister of the state.
Since the collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party - Bharatiya Janta Party alliance in the state of the Jammu and Kashmir in June 2018, Sajad Lone was seen in Kashmir as a powerful politician who broke the PDP and was likely to be the more stronger than his rivals from National Conference, PDP and even Congress.
Sajad Lone was so confident that he had fielded his candidates from all the three seats of Kashmir.
But none of his three candidates including Irfan Ali Ansari, who is brother of senior Shia leader could win. He was defeated by Dr Farooq Abdullah of National Conference.
Since last year, Peoples Conference had been claiming to be getting more and more members from other parties like Congress, PDP and NC and it was this development that was helping Sajad Lone to be seen as a face for the chair of Chief Minister.
Analysts said the defeat of PC in Kashmir has changed the situation. "The game is back in the hands of Abdullahs through their three seats in the Parliament and they will not let him(Sajad Lone) move ahead with his dreams," said one analyst.
A senior leader of the NC told Early Times that now their party would be expecting members from PC to join them.
