RTO tightens nose around Auto Rickshaws plying without fare metres

Jammu, May 25: Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu today laid special nakas at various places to crackdown on the Auto Rickshaws plying without Fare meters.

A team headed by RTO Jammu Dhananter Singh and assisted by ARTO Shafqat Majeed Bhat and MVI Er. Gurmeet Singh Bali checked more than 50 Auto Rickshaws in different areas of the city. As many as 17 Auto Rickshaws were challaned/fined under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 for plying at flat rates i.e. without operating fare meters.

The passengers were also briefed about the fare meters rates and were motivated to travel in Auto Rickshaws only on fare meters. They were advised to contact RTO office on the numbers written on the Auto Rickshaws to register complaint in case of non-compliance by the operators of the Auto Rickshaws.

Earlier in the day, the team visited various Driving Schools/Institutes operating in Jammu district and inspected their working. The owners of the schools were directed to maintain proper records and operate as per the procedures laid down in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. They were also directed to introduce Biometric attendance for trainees in order to ensure their presence in classes.
