Now Omar missing from Farooq's celebrations

Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 26: Even as most of the senior leaders of the National Conference on Saturday called on Dr Farooq Abdullah at his Gupkar residence here to greet him on his victory in the Parliament elections, his son Omar Abdullah was conspicuous for his absence at the celebrations. While Dr Abdullah is the patron, Omar is the working President of the National Conference and his absence at the celebrations at the residence of the leader have sent a "wrong signal" as the son lives only next to him on the Gupkar road in Srinagar.
Sources said from Nasir Aslam Wani to Ali Muhammad Sagar, many of the senior leaders of the party were present at the celebrations joined by several workers but the absence of Omar Abdullah was visible. Insiders said others present on the occasion were Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Mubarak Gul, Shamima Firdous, Dr Sajad Uri, Shammi Oberoi and Salman Sagar. "You can say that barring him (Omar) everyone was present," said insiders.
Sources said celebrations were called as Dr Abdullah was presented with the Certificate declaring him as successful candidate from Srinagar and that the same was received on behalf of the party patron by his chief election agent Showkat Ahmed Mir, who is also a senior leader.
Sources said the party workers were looking for "Omar Sahib" and were heard telling each other that he should have been present for the photo session on the day of celebrations.
Sources said it was believed that Omar may have gone to the national capital. To mention, Omar was seen missing on the evening of the day when polls were cast for Srinagar constituency where from his father was contesting and has emerged victorious. On that day Omar had left for New Delhi after polling ended. Despite repeated attempts Dr Farooq Abdullah or his son were not accessible comments.
