JAMMU, May 29: A weeklong celebration of International Bio Diversity Day on the theme "Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health" culminated in Carmel Convent Higher Secondary School. During the week, special assemblies and competitions were conducted to highlight the importance and conservation of biodiversity and the measures to preserve the natural heritage. The celebration concluded with an informative programme organized by the Science & Eco club of the school. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Ex MLA, convenor, Indian Council for Enviro & Legal Action, J&K was the chief guest and Lalit Kumar Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Executive Member, Indian Council for Enviro & Legal Action was the guest of honour. The programme commenced with a special prayer service emphasising the relation between biodiversity and the human race. Inspiring speeches by Anshika Gandhi, Tamana Gupta and Shivya Sharma highlighted the importance of Bio-diversity related threats, impact of climate change and conservation needs and efforts at regional, national & international level. The event was made more memorable by a special dance performance by the Carmelites. A Mime Act competition was also conducted for the higher secondary wing. The performers staged a skit using actions, characters and emotions to portray the necessity of green cover and the urgent need to protect the planet Earth.
