HC seeks garbage details in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 29: The J&K High Court on Wednesday directed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to inform it about the stepwise method undertaken for garbage collection, segregation, dumping and ultimate treatment accorded to it. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar also directed Housing and Urban Development Department to consider within three weeks a request by SMC for requisite financial support. "The SMC has filed a status report dated 27th May 2019 merely setting out proposals made by the Chief Sanitation Officer without anything more," the court observed. "We issue a direction to the SMC to place before this court the stepwise method of garbage collection; its segregation; its dumping and ultimate treatment accorded to it. The SMC shall specifically inform this Court about the manner in which garbage is collected from the households and the location of the dumping sites," the court said, adding, the SMC shall also give a list of the locations at which it has installed segregated dustbins in the city of Srinagar and the manner and schedule in which the garbage is collected there from. The court was informed by senior Additional Advocate General B A Dar that he shall bring a report with regard to the Solid Waste Management by-Laws positively before the next date. "Such report shall be filed by the SMC within three weeks from today." |
