Revamp Indian Education System
Vivek Koul5/30/2019 11:24:02 PM
Our system of education is faulty and outdated. The education system of our country is deteriorating with each passing day and if it remains unabated and unchecked then our country's future will be at stake. Students are adopting and following the method of rote learning which can eventually obstruct the student's future prospect and career. The churning of India's education system is not taking any eternity. Over the last 70 years it has yielded more poison than nectar. There is fear psychosis among the students as far as the examination system is concerned. They only want to crack the exam with high percentages with least regard to the actual subject matter. Parents are also equally responsible for their children's fate. They also want their wards to secure high percentages in the exams by hook or by crook notwithstanding the fact that this may jeopardize their career. A teacher should have to play a big role by imparting practical knowledge to the students and there should be more workshops organized in the schools and colleges so that rote learning can be confiscated and eliminated completely and the students need to understand the concepts clear with least regard to the traditional cramming technique of learning. Teachers can also help students to develop analytical skills, problem solving skills, writing skills, communication skills etc by organizing extra-curricular activities in the school and at the college level as well. A teacher should also have the leadership qualities and should inculcate the moral and aesthetic values to the students. The lack of effective leadership has contributed to indiscipline among teachers leading to declining academic standards. It is also a well known fact that the students are the future of the country. So we need to empower the youth of this country. To empower the youth the first and foremost thing that the country needs to pay heed is the change in the education system of the country. India is the home and birthplace of many of the inventions which shaped the world and is proud of holding many experts from various fields bringing laurel to the country. Education plays important roles is shaping the future and support the experts from where they grow to begin the adventure of their life. In this technological era our education system looks like an assembly line of the factory preparing the assembly workers. The National Policy on Education (NPE) formulated by the Government of India is the policy which covers the education right starting from elementary school to the higher learning institution of the country. The policy first came into existence in the year 1968 by the government of Indira Gandhi and was then revised in the year 1986 by Rajiv Gandhi. Since, then there has been no major reform in the policy for the last three decades which is resulting in the growing frustration of the students in the higher learning institution. There is an immediate need to look into it and bring a holistic change in the education system of the country. There should be a way of bringing the industry and academia to create skilled and employable graduates from the colleges. The education in the country should be made intellectually challenging and should questions assumptions rather than based on the rote memorization technique and orthodoxy. Though there are a lot of flaws in the education system, it is time to take bold and visionary steps. The biggest flaw in the education system is that it incentivizes memory over the originality of the student. The goal and policy of the new education system should be on creating entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers to create knowledge based economy rather the prevailing low quality service provider country in the world we are turning to be. Moreover, the education reforms should be periodically updated because everyday new technologies are coming and our education system is still sticky to the old forms. In our country since the last 60 years no great inventions have been made. This is mainly because due to lack of exposure to the technologies. Students should be exposed to these changing technologies so if they come out they are ready to use and explore these technologies. Since we come to know about these only after school or graduation it is difficult to adapt and learning these things becomes a great task. Therefore our Government should look and update Educational Policies periodically, so that new inventions can be appreciated. We should implement technologies in our education so that learning becomes more effective and applicable to the futures. If India has to truly rise as a global economic power, it must focus its efforts on upgrading the system of education. The quality of education needs to be given the first priority while the profit motto should be given secondary.
