Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 16: A delegation of Maatri Bhasha Bachao Andolan Jammu, headed by its Convener, Advocate Hari Chand Jalmeria met the Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma and presented a memorandum of demands seeking restoration of Dogri News unit at Central Headquarters of All India Radio, New Delhi.
The delegation comprised of Advocate B R Manhas, Sunila Sharma, Manisha, Swati and Sanjay.
Jalmeria, while explaining the memorandum, said that Dogri and Kashmiri News unit at the Central Headquarters of All India Radio New Delhi were opened in 1947 in wake of tribal invasion in the State to counter the poisonous and false propaganda of Pakistan. Now, when Dogri has been included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and has become one of the 22 national languages, its Central News unit has been closed since 2017 as per the decision of Prasar Bharti Board whereas Kashmiri and Punjabi units are still functioning.
Jalmeria requested Jugal Kishore Sharma to raise issue of restoration of Dogri News unit at Central Headquarters of All India Radio, New Delhi in Zero Hour of ensuing Lok Sabha session and also impress upon the Union Government to withdraw its decision besides restoring Dogri News unit without further wastage of time.
Jugal assured the delegation that he would raise the aforesaid issue in the Lok Sabha and also take up the matter with Union Government.
Dr Archana Kesar, Munshi Khan Choudhary, Uday Chand, K K Pathan, Raman Kant Singh, Ashwani Pradhan and Shanker Singh Chib were also present on the occasion.
