At Pahalgam golf course

Early Times Report

Pahalgam, June 16: In a shocking incident, a senior government official was on Sunday spotted fighting with employees of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) after they denied him free cart ride at the Pahalgam golf course.
The officer along with his family arrived in Pahalgam golf course at around 4:36 pm and asked the PDA employees to provide him two golf carts so that he and his family can take few rides in the golf course.
However, the employees refused to provide him the golf carts, which agitated the officer and he rebuked them in front of his family members and other visitors.
The officer then called a Revenue officer posted at Pahalgam and asked him to contact the PDA officer who is looking after the golf course so that he gets two golf carts. The Revenue officer on phone wanted to talk with the employees, but they refused and told him that they will talk to their officer first. In the meantime, an official from PDA arrived and directed his staff to provide golf carts to the officer.
Two golf carts were taken out and handed over to the family of officer. For half an hour officer and his family took free of cost rides and drained the batteries of both golf carts. The 1999 batch KAS officer hailing from South Kashmir is presently heading an elite department and is drawing monthly salary of more than Rs 1.50 lakh.
Later, PDA officer and employees apologized to the officer for 'inconvenience'.
"Now we came to know that some time ago he was Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal. So why to take risk? Tomorrow he can be posted in Anantnag as Deputy Commissioner," some PDA employees told this reporter.
They said that it wasn't for the first that they have had to face such officers. "We are being humiliated again and again. On one side we are being directed to stop misuse of machinery particularly of these golf carts but then our seniors use the same machinery for pleasing officers," they said, adding that golf course has been virtually turned into personal property of the elites.
They also claimed that immature golfers come and play without paying single penny. "They don't even pay entry charges," they added.
Chief Executive Officer PDA wasn't available for a comment. Important to mention here that the PDA is looking after the Lidder Valley golf course as it hasn't yet been formally handed over to Golf Development Authority. So far the Jammu and Kashmir government has spent Rs 200 crore on the golf course, but it has failed to attack tourists and golfers due to wrong policies.
