Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 17: A millitant believed to be a foreigner and an Army Captain were killed in the encounter that broke out in Bidoora village of Achabal area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district today while as several soldiers were injured when militants blew up a powerful IED targeting the Army's vehicle at Arihal village of Pulwama district.
A top police officer said that a militant was killed, who is believed to a foreigner while as an Army captain sustained serious bullet injuries in an encounter that started in Bidoora village of Achabal in Anantnag.
The officer said that on receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area joint team of forces including 19 RR, CRPF and SOG launched search operation in the area. "On intensifying the search operation towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which were retaliated triggering gunfight," he said.
Defence Spokesman in Srinagar, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that one militant was killed in Anantnag gunfight while as an army officer, who was injured, also succumbed to his injuries. "The operation was in progress," he said.
Meanwhile, militants targeted the army's vehicle also known as Hardened ALS at Arihal village of Pulwama with a powerful Improvised Explosive Device that resulted in the damage to the vehicle and injuries to few army men. Reports said that nine army men were injured in the incident.
Reports said that an Army vehicle of 44 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) was targeted with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Arihal village of South Kashmir's Pulwama district.
Reports said that a vehicle of 44 RR was targeted with IED that was planted beneath the bridge in Arihal area, causing damage to the vehicle. The loud bang of the IED followed by firing created panic in the area, reports added. An official while confirming the attack on an Army vehicle said that no injury or casualty was reported in the incident.
The Defence spokesman said that a failed attempt was made by the militants to attack a mobile vehicle patrol of 44 RR with a vehicle based IED while the army patrol was moving in the general area at Arihal in Pulwama.
"Troops are all safe besides few minor injuries. Reports of attack on army convoy are unfounded and baseless. Area has been cordoned and search operations launched," he said. He said that the damage was minimized due to the alertness of the patrol party. "It is a hardened ALS and not Casper," he said.
