Early Times Report

Anantnag, June 18: A Jaish-e-Muhmmad (JeM) militant, who was involved in deadly Lethpora Pulwama attack, was killed along with his associate in Marhama Village of South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday morning.
Three army personnel also suffered critical injuries during the gunfight among which one succumbed to his injuries in a military hospital in Srinagar.
According to reports, a cordon & search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces at Marhama in Bijbehara area of District Anantnag after receiving specific information about the presence of militants hiding a residential house.
"As the search operation was going on, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter," Police said.
Police said that in the exchange of fire with the militants, one Army Jawan Anil Jaswal sustained gunshot injuries. He was evacuated to the hospital where he attained martyrdom. Two other army jawans have also suffered injuries in the gunfight.
Two militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhmmad (JeM) militant outfit were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The slain militants ave been identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhat and Tawseef Ahmad Bhat both residents of Marhama, Bijbehara.
As per the records available with police, both the killed militants were affiliated with militant outfit JeM and were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including attacking of security establishments and civilian atrocities.
Police said that Sajad was wanted in Lethpora blast in which 40 CRPF personnel were martyred earlier this year. As per the material evidence collected during the course of investigation it was learnt that Maruti Eco vehicle used for carrying out the blast in Lethpora was owned by one Sajad Bhat of Marhama. As the news of Sajad's involvement spread, he escaped and joined proscribed terror outfit JeM.
On 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora in the Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The attack resulted in the deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel and the attacker
A picture of Sajad carrying AK-47 rifle was also circulated on social media announcing his joining terror outfit. Pertinently Tawseef played a key role in recruiting of Sajad to the terrorist ranks*
Both of them were part of groups involved in planning and executing series of terror attacks in the area. Several terror crime cases were registered against them.
Some of the terror crime cases registered against Sajad includes case FIR No 16/2018 and case FIR No 28/2019 pertaining to Lethpora attack. Cases registered against Tawseef include case FIR No 95/2018. Incriminating material including arms & ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter. "All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes" Police said. After the encounter, a large number of people assembled near the encounter site and also clashed with security forces.
