Early Times Report
Jammu, June 19: They are prompt in paying tax but basic civic amenities still elude them. This is the story of the residents of Deshmesh Nagar and its adjoining areas where bad roads, lack of cleanliness and fused streetlights are the common problems that plague several areas of the locality.
Editor, Early Times Munish Gupta who would be contesting upcoming Assembly Election from the Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an Independent candidate today conducted extensively Mass Contact Programme of Deshmesh Nagar's Sector - A to D and Gangyal areas near Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Gangyal.
Residents of the locality told Munish Gupta that despite repeated pleas to local Corporator either Parmjeet Singh Raina or Baldev Singh Billowaria regarding the construction of drains and lanes of their locality have fallen on deaf ears. They said that they are facing hardships to get basic amenities but successive MLAs either of Congress and BJP who represented of Gandhi Nagar Constituency, always gave preference to posh area of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Trikuta Nagar.
Charanjeet Sight residing at Lane No.2 of Ward No 58 told Munish Gupta, the only two streetlights were installed by JMC near a decade ago which have turned defunct and never restored by the concerned department.
"One streetlight is installed just entrance of lane which has been creating hurdle for vehicle to enter into lane. Regarding this, we asked even local councilor for relocating it, resulting we are compelled to park our vehicle on road side", said D S Bali.
Manjeet Kour and her two children namely Malkeet Singh and Sandeep Singh said that they have not been registered in the voter list. Since last two elections either of local bodies and Member Parliament we making every effort to register themselves in voter list have not yielded any result.
Like Manjeet Kour there are many other voter who attained the age of franchise but all of them were struggling for to get register in voter list. "Parmjeet Kour and Asha Devi were those unfortunate residents of Deshmesh Nagar who have been even submitted their documents before employees who were assigned here by election commission to make new voter list but they too have not been registered", said Hari Kishore.
Nirmal Kour informed Munish Gupta despite repeated pleas to PHE for changing of blocked water supply pipe, the PHE foreman denied to replace, resulting the water scarcity making our lives hell.
Nariender Kour residing just opposite to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital said that in our lane two foundation stone were laid out by two former MLAs. One was laid by Raman Bhalla and other was laid by Kavinder Gupta near the Hospital wall for construction of lane and drains but lane and drains are still in dilapidated condition.
"A lane which connects Kashmir Mohalla from Rajiv Gandhi Hospital to Deshmesh Nagar is not in well condition. Pot holed lane filled with sewerage water is creating problem for school children and old age persons. The safai karamchari visit once in week to carry out cleanliness drive resulting the locality living in unhygienic condition but the authority seems unbothered about it", said Mashoor Singh.
Mohider Kumar who has been suffering with kidney related ailment since a long time and getting treatment from GMC&H Bakshi Nagar has not been covered under Ayushman Bharat Yojana. He told Munish Gupta that he urged the local Corporator Baldev Singh and health officials for getting registered under the ambitious scheme, but they always ignored the genuine plea.
