Casual labour in PDD lost his limbs due to power shock, Dept left him abandoned

Jammu, June 23: Sham Lal, who was working as casual labour in Power Development Department lost his both arms and got serious head injury due to power shock while discharging his duties but department didn't come forward to help and left him on his pity condition.
While talking to Early Times, Sham Lal, resident of Uttam Colony of Kunjwani said that he joined PDD as causal labour in 2010 and the tragedy took place in 2012 while working he received sudden power shock which took his both arms and got serious injuries on his head.
"I had to undergo three head surgeries in Ludhiana and Rs 9 lakhs of medical expense was incurred and out of which only Rs 1 lakh of assistance was given by the Department while rest of the payment was made through loan from relatives and friends," he said.
He further said that after losing limbs he has no work to do due to which it has become difficult to run house. "I have a daughter, who is 23 year old and the responsibility of her marriage is haunting us as there is no money with us. Moreover to meet daily needs we have to face hardships. Earlier i used to get Rs 4500 salary per month from the department but it has been quite long time, the salary has been stopped which has added woes to our life," he said.
