Munish Gupta reaches people in Uttam Nagar
Takes stock of dilapidated roads, power shortage
6/23/2019 11:31:33 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 23: Although Shiva Colony, Uttam Nagar of Kunjwani area fall in Jammu Municipal Corporation but as far as the basic facilities like proper roads, drains, water and regular power are concern, these areas are worse than rural areas.
Carrying forward his mass contact programme in view of upcoming assembly elections in the State, Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times met residents of the Shiva Colony, Uttan Nagar of Kunjwani informed them of his vision and also heard their problems.
"The roads in this colony are in total dilapidated condition as these roads were blacked topped around 20 years ago and till date not repair has been done due to which huge potholes have been developed and during rainy season these roads become death traps. Moreover the drains don't work properly due to no cleaning of it and the dirty water of houses spread in the lanes which gives messy look of the areas," said Satya Devi, Deepak Choudhary, Lakhvinder Singh, Darshana Devi the residents of Shiva Colony.
"The drains within the colony have no passage for its outlet and the main drains, which are along the National Highway are totally choked, blocked. We have been facing PHE water supply problems in our area. The lanes have not been tiled despite many requests to the local councillor. The entire colony has been abandoned by the local leaders particularly the local MLA Kavinder Gupta, who has never visited the area after winning elections," alleged Jagdish Singh, Manju Devi of Lane No. 4, Lane No. 5 respectively.
At some places only one phase of power has been provided by the PDD due to which low power and huge fluctuation is witnessed particularly in hot summer days making entire night sleepless but no solution has been done by the PDD, said that Victor James, Prem Singh of Lane No. 5.
"We have been living here for the last 18 years and there are around 152 houses and 8 lanes in the Shiva Colony and dilapidated roads, blocked drains are common view of the colony. The Colony has become political victim as the concerned Councillor is of Congress Party while the concerned MLA is of BJP and both never let the development work done in the area," Ashok Kumar Bhat.
Non inclusion of many residents of Shiva Colony and Uttam Colony in electoral rolls and Ration Card is the one of the major problems being faced by the people, who alleged that some political leaders are creating hurdles in the process. It has been two years since our Ration Cards have not been made, said Harmeet Kour, Rakesh Kumar, Sunita, Neelam Devi, Bikram Singh, Anju Bala and Anoop Singh.
The elderly women alleged that they have not been given facility of old age or widow pension scheme to them, said Rano Devi of Lane No 8.
The area being in Municipality, the Safaikarmarchis hardly pay visit in the area and we have to pay from our pocket for cleaning purpose, which is total injustice with us, said Rajinder Sharma, Roshan Lal, Tilak Raj Raina and Gurmeet Singh.
Angjrez Singh, an elderly resident of the Shiva Colony had strong reservations against the BJP and Congress leaders. He alleged that the concerned MLA Kavinder Gupta don't know the name of their area and what can be expected from him regarding development of the area.
