Sagar calls Burhan, Zakir Musa martyrs; says BJP didn’t get votes in Tral

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 24: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar on Monday called the killing of terrorists like Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa martyrdom and indirectly sought votes in their name during a public address in Pulwama.
While speaking at a worker’s conventions of Pulwama and Rajpura assembly segments at Pulwama, the JKNC general secretary said, “BJP got votes in Tral, it’s an irony. It’s a place where Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa were martyred. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Sagar is a very senior leader of the National Conference and he has served as a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet in the past. The JKNC had lost over a dozen Vidhan Sabha seats in the 2014 elections and is trying to garner the support of people in South Kashmir. The next Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are likely to be scheduled by this year’s end.
Back in the 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 25 seats. Omar Abdullah’s JKNC stood at the third place with just 15 seats to its name.
The BJP had gained 14 seats while the PDP secured 7 more seats than the 2009 Assembly elections. It was the JKNC which had suffered a major loss with the party losing 13 seats from its 2009 tally.
Back in the 2014 elections, PDP’s Mushtaq Ahmad Shah was elected MLA from the seat after he receiving 12,415 votes while JKNC candidate Mohd Ashraf Bhat was the runner up with 8,305 votes.
