Early Times Report
Jammu, June 25: Amid huge funding from Centre for various development projects and up-gradation of existing ones, the residents of Bahu Fort-Sheikh Nagar on Tuesday blamed former MLA Gandhi Nagar Kavinder Gupta of seldom visiting the area after assembly elections nor initiating any development project in the area.
Talking to Early Times team which visited the area on Tuesday, the residents including Gurbachan Singh, Ramesh Chander, Thakur Singh, Aditya Sharma, Raj Kumar, Rajinder Koul, Paramjeet, Ravi Kumar, Bodh Raj, Dev Raj, Krishan Lal, Kanta Devi, Dharminder Kumar, Abhishek, Sanday Devi and Kailash Devi informed that their demand of bridge over a nullah has been pending for last 35 years.
"During expansion of rail link to Udhampur, several families from Sheikh Nagar were shifted by JDA in Qasim Nagar area. "Since then are demanding a bridge over the nullah, but no one showed any interest to serve our demand", they said and added that in the absence of a bridge most of the residents are forced to take wrong side while coming here or any other place.
"So far over 20 accidents have been taken place and over a dozen people have died due negligence of administration", they said and added that similarly other demands of residents were deliberately ignored by the leaders and the administration.
"In 1982 pipe lines were laid by PHE, and after almost 38 years, same line is being used for water supply. However the pipe line is broken, and due to this filthy and contaminated water is being supplied us", they said.
They further said that late Sheikh Abdullah (the area is named after him) was the only caretaker of this area. "During his time electric lines were laid in the area for electricity. Now most of the cables are damaged, but they are not being replaced", they said.
They said that the administration is unconcerned about the Shishu Samadain in the area. "Some people have encroached upon the land, and some addicted youth take drug in bushes covered area. No fencing along the boundaries of the Shishu Samadain has been done", they said and added on several occasions police conducted raids there but the drug suppliers managed to escape.
