DySP fudges quantity of seized heroin to save accused
'Veeru is continuing his mission: minting money'

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 25: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) posted in Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range, notoriously known as Veeru, has yet again managed to clinch a deal to save the skin of an accused drug smuggler by wilfully converting the quantity of the seized substance.
According to sources, the DySP deliberately made changes to the quantity of 11 grams of seized heroin to just one gram so that the accused smuggler could at least secure a bail from the court of law.
"The DySP acted smartly as on one hand he got the case registered against the accused for the crime committed while on the other hand he fudged the figure of the quantity of the banned substance in order to provide much needed relief to the smuggler from whom he had taken hefty amount as part of the deal," said sources.
Sources said that earlier the notorious officer had an accomplice in the police department and both were famous as 'Jai-Veeru' pair on the analogy of epic movie 'Sholay'. However, 'Jai' is no more part of the pair following his transfer due to which 'Veeru' is carrying out his mission: 'minting money' all alone.
Sources further said that there are two police stations under the command of the DySP adding that last week, information was passed on that a smuggler was seen roaming in his luxurious car in the area and carrying heroin with him.
"After getting the tip off, the officer activated both his police stations as he was well aware that the road stretch on which the smuggler was driving connects areas of both the police stations. Sooner than later search nakas were laid on the route and ultimately police managed to intercept the vehicle of the smuggler at one of the nakas. The car was thoroughly searched and recovery of heroin was made while the accused was taken to the police station concerned," said sources.
Sources further said that even before the accused was brought to police station, the officer had reached the police station adding that in the meantime the DySP received several calls in favour of the smuggler as he was an influential person of the area. The DySP was persistently told to provide all possible assistance to the accused.
"Following receipt of the calls and finalization of a favourable deal, the DySP manipulated the case documents and changed the figure of seized heroin from 11 grams to 1 gram while the SHO concerned was asked to remain silent," said sources.
Since the particular case discussed widely in the area of this case, the DySP deemed it fit to register the case albeit with altered quantity of the heroin seized so that nobody could raise fingers of suspicion on him.
