Early Times Report
kishtwar, July 2: The sorry state of affairs in Education department in far flung areas of Kishtwar district can be understood from this: a primary school at Mulchiter Sigdi (Shah Mohallah) is locked for last one week.
As per the details available with "Early Times" after finding their wards returning home without attending the school, the local Panch along with some parents and relatives of the students visited the school to verify the things. They were shocked to find that the school was locked, and on inquiry it was learnt that the school is locked since June 25.
Speaking to "Early Times", the locals said that 30-35 students are studying in this primary school and that the teachers hardly attend the school. They said that they even after complaining to the concern ZEO and senior officials in the administration nothing was done. The angry people said that senior officials in Education department are showing no concern towards this school and urged the government to shut the school if they fail in reigning the teachers posted in this school.
They called upon the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to initiate action against teachers for remaining absent from duties and ZEO Inderwal for his failure to make the school function.
"When we called a teacher Shahnawaz Ahmed for inquiring into the reason for his absence, he said that he was in Kishtwar in connection with some training," said the locals.
They said that in case any teacher has been deputed for training purpose, it is the sole responsibility to the Education department to make alternative arrangements for making the school functional. They said that a female teacher, Shaista, posted in the school too didn't attend her duty to unknown reasons.
When the matter was brought into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, he assured to look into the matter.
It is pertinent to mention that "Early Times" highlighted the story of Middle School Kulna and Meherna in Palmar area of Kishtwar wherein the students of 6th standard have had failed to identify the numbers randomly from 1-100.
Acting on the news report, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar issued an order necessitating the signature of 10 parents and the concerned Sarpanch on attendance certificate before the withdrawal of his/her salary-the order which is being opposed by a group of teachers who are not falling under the ambit of the said order or by those who are habitual of absenteeism and were from time to time found involved in politics within the department.
