No headway in upgradation, restoration of small power projects in Jammu by PDC
7/5/2019 12:27:18 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4: As J&K is facing acute shortage of power in Summer with the increasing of daily consumption due to use of electric gadgets like ACs and coolers as well as fans the authorities have over the years failed to construct any new power project on its own.
The fate of small power projects like Parnai in Pooch, upgradation of Chenani Hydro Project and Sewa Second in Basholi area of Kathua district is not known.
According to sources the State Government over two decades back had decided to upgrade the. Chenani Hydro Electric Project and construction of Micro Hydel Project at Parnai Poonch to increase power generation in the State.
But the work on Parnai Project was stopped due to increasing militant activities in the area a couple of years it was started.
However later it was again resumed after situation improved.
But even after a decade now the project has not been completed due to slow pace of work on it.
Same is the case with upgradation of Chenani Power house to increase its generation capacity.
Besides the Power Development Corloration (PDC) has failed to make any headway in restoration of eight MW Sewa Second at Hutmazhka in Basholi tehsil of Kathua district.
The Project developed a snag within one year of its commissioning.
Sources said a portion of canal was washed away by river Ravi floods which is flowing along the power canal over a decade back after crores of rupees spent on it wasted.
Sources said though it was a design failure by the Departmental engineers but Government failed to probe the same and punish the erring engineers though State chequere was put to a heavy loss. Even the PDC over decade now is not even taking steps for the restoration of the project.
