Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 5: A militant affiliated with Al-Badr Mujahideen was today killed in an encounter with the government forces in Batpora-Narwani area of Imam Sahib in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
Police said that the gunfight broke out in Shopian village after a joint Cordon and Search Operation was launched by police and forces in Batpora-Narwani village following credible input about the presence of militants there.
During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, police said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter.
Police identified the slain militant as Sameer Ahmad Seh of Sugan Shopian and said that he was affiliated with Al-Badar and had recently joined HM. "He was wanted by law for his complicity in a series of cases including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities," police said.
"According to the police records, Sameer had history of cases and was part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter, police said, adding that all these materials were taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases.
Meanwhile, police urged people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, police said.
Meanwhile, soon after the gunfight broke out, the mobile internet services were also snapped in Shopian as well as in Kulgam districts. Moreover, clashes also broke out in the area after the youth took to the streets during the encounter.
