Independent candidates needed: Ex-corporator Paramjeet Kour
7/5/2019 10:50:34 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5: Expressing her pleasure over a new face coming out for contesting assembly election as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, former corporator Jammu Cantonment Board, Paramjeet Kour, said that people are looking for new options in the political circle as they are fed up with the mainstream parties who have betrayed the trust of people after coming into power.
Talking to Early Times in an exclusive interview, Paramjeet Kour, who was corporator of JCB from Ward No. 6 of Upper Belicharana, said that people are now eagerly finding new options in state politics and eligible and independent candidates can fill that vacuum which has been created by the mainstream political parties due to their poor performance.
"People have strong resentment against such leaders who first canvass for votes by making lot of promises and then after getting elected never turn up to the people. Only dedicated, determined candidates can now change the politics, which should be people-friendly and ensure 100% service delivery in terms of providing basic amenities," she said.
Kour was first female member of JCB who got elected in 2008. She got number of development works done during her tenure in the area. "I believe that people know you from your works which are done on the ground. They need only basic amenities like water, power, lanes and drains. It is the duty of the elected representative to take care of all the issue and to work for their redressal," she maintained.
Pointing out the problems of her area, she said that their locality is living on the bank of main canal. "Earlier there was no fencing along the canal due to which many human causalities took place and then after getting elected, I got fencing work done. But with the passage of time the fencing has broken at many places, which need immediate repair. Now as I am no longer member of JCB, nobody is looking towards this grave problem," she lamented.
She further said that there is no proper drainage system in her area. "I have raised this issue before board a number of times as without drains the dirty water coming out from the houses find no place for its proper outlet and people are compelled to spill it on road but nobody is bothered to redress this problem," she said.
She said that PHE water supply is also a problem in some of the areas in Upper Belicharana. There are many families which have 'Kucha houses' and need government assistance to get them permanent, she added.
"Street lights which were installed during my tenure along the canal as member JCB are not working now and need repair, but present member hardly gives attention towards these problems," she said.
