JKHCBAJ slams police for misbehaving with CJM Udhampur
Lawyers hold protest
7/8/2019 10:20:38 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: The J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHCBAJ) on Monday condemned the police officers who misbehaved with a senior judicial officer.
In an emergency meeting of its executive committee held under the chairmanship of president Abhinav Sharma, JKHCBAJ took a strong exception of the misbehaviour of the officials of J&K police with a judicial officer who happens to be Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udhampur.
The JKHCBAJ discussed the matter threadbare and a unanimous decision was taken to condemn the action of Superintendent of Police namely Suram Singh and other police officials deputed on the spot.
"The police officials misbehaved the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udhampur, though the judicial officer disclosed his identity. The members present in the meeting took serious note of this fact that after the disclosure of the identity by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udhampur, the officer and other officials of J&K Police deputed, did not behave properly with the judicial officer and instead threatened him of legal action which was not warranted under the circumstances," a statement of JKHCBAJ said.
It said that it was resolved in the meeting that the next meeting of the executive committee would be held on July 9 at 10.30 am in Justice A.S. Anand Library.
Meanwhile, the JKHCBAJ will take up the matter with the Chief Justice of High Court of J&K "as to what action/steps have been taken by the High Court in this regard on judicial side, in as much as the Chief Judicial Magistrate was proceeding towards his official duty when the aforesaid incident had taken place which amounts to interference in the administration of justice," the statement said.
The Bar Association, also took note of this fact that during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, there are certain restrictions imposed on the movement of the traffic, yet the fact that ,once the judicial officer had disclosed his identity, the police officer/officials deputed on the spot neither should have misbehaved nor threatened the said judicial officer.
The other office bearers of JKHCBAJ who were present in the meeting included: Rohit Bhagat, Vice President, Abhishek Wazir, General Secretary, Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary, Sushant Samnotra, Treasurer, and L.K. Sharma, Surinder Kour, S. D.S. Saini, V.B. Gupta, P.N. Goja, S Rupinder Singh, Rajesh Kotwal, M.R. Queshi, Usman Salaria, Rajesh Thappa, Rozina Afzal, Monika Kohli, J.P. Gandhi, and others.
Meanwhile, All the members of Judicial Employees Welfare Association (J.E.W.A) of Jammu District under the presidentship of district Jammu Abdul Kayyum and under the supervision of Sudershan Singh, provincial president, Jammu, assembled in Court Complex, Janipur, Jammu and made a strong but peaceful protest against Suram Singh Additional S.P Jammu who had misbehaved and harassed the CJM Udhampur.
