Early Times Report

Jammu, July 9: A plantation drive was organised by IRP 14th Bn. in Armed Police Complex Channi Himmat Jammu and in Commando training Centre Sunjwan.
This environmental friendly initiative was conceived by Dy. Commandant of IRP 14th Bn. Sukhdev Raj, SSP with an aim to make the Armed Police complex Channi Himmat and CTC Sunjwan green.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhdev Raj, SSP dwelt at length on the urgent need of protecting the atmosphere through plantation of trees. He told emphatically that in view of the increasing threat to the planet earth as a result of extensive pollution, deforestation and disturbances to the Ozone layer, it becomes imperative to adhere to the guidelines circulated by various agencies concerned with the preservation of fauna and flora so that life on earth remains secure.
He told in unequivocal terms that afforestation should be a mandatory subject if at all we have to keep society healthy and free from ailments. The constant falling of trees in India has been a problem for a long time, and plantation and its maintenance is important in creating awareness of the issues. According to the forest department, for every tree fallen ten tree saplings should be planted to make up for its loss. Nearly 400 Plants of different species were planted by this unit at Channi as well as at CTC Sunjwan.
Other present on the occasion included Subash Chander-DySP (Vice Principal CTC Sunjwan), D.K Bhardwaj Inspr. (RI) IRP 14th Bn., Sudhir Sadhotra Inspr., Mushtaq Ahmad Inspr., Vishajeet Thakur PO, Rajesh Sharma Inspector and all other ranks of IR-14th Bn.
