Forest Dept launches plantation on retrieved land at Dwara

JAMMU, July 10: The state Forest Department has launched a massive plantation drive on retrieved land here at Dwara.
As per the Chief Conservator, Jammu around 16 hactare forest area has been freed from encroachment during previous months at this location and protected with 15000 feet fencing. The drive was started on July 8 as part of the Green J&K initiative.
The department has set a target of planting 15000 plants this monsoon to develop the area into a lush green patch. A proposal to develop the area into a city park is also under consideration which will provide the avenues of eco-tourism and recreation in the vicinity of Jammu city.
Meanwhile, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Suresh Chugh inspected the ongoing fencing and plantation works on the encroachment evicted land at Dwara. He also carried out plantation in the area . CCF Jammu, Sameer Bharti, DFO Jammu Alok Maurya DFO Jammu, DFO Urban Forestry Sh. Suneel Singh and other staff of Jammu and Urban Forestry Divisions was also present.
The PCCF expressed satisfaction over the progress of work and emphasized upon timely completion of the all the works of the monsoon season in proposed areas. The PCCF directed the staff to take the drive forward for the entire season by involving Schools, Colleges, Panchayats, NGOs, Defence forces etc.
