Over night rain lashes Kishtwar; creates havoc in town, peripheral areas

KISHTWAR, July 11: The tall claims of the state government falls flat in Chenab valley comprises of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban since yesterday heavy over night rains created havoc at many places resulted into landslides and road blockade for hours together beside the rain water also create havoc in many areas of Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas.
Meanwhile due to overnight and continuous rainfall, the temperature once again witness massive drop as a result of which fresh cold wave engulfed Chenab valley,l after high altitude areas of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban Districts witness fresh snowfall after harsh winter.
As per the details available with Early Times, due heavy showers over night in Kishtwar, the rain water created havoc in many areas of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas after drains within Municipal Committee Kishtwar and on Kishtwar main road from Malipath to Sangrabata was chocked; as a result of which rain water spills on roads, lanes beside rain water also enter into residence and shops in many areas of Kishtwar town.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the worst affected areas due to rain water and flooded drains were Guldhali Chowk, Amar Market, Bhandari Mohallah, Kichloo Mohallah, Guriyan, Bunastan and Malik Market, Shaheedi Mazar, TB Hospital while the flooded rain water enter into the shops near Om Mehta road and some houses in low lying areas as well as homes alongside the chocked drains.
The people living in the area informed that the municipality roads and lanes has become a cause of nuisance for them threatening their homes and property particularly as and when rains lashes the area and in similar incident today, the rain and muddy water enters into the houses of many people defacing their homes and underground water tanks.
As per the inhabitants, the under construction and outdated drains in the town has become a matter of concern for them as and when rainfall pours in the District and other people traveling in the town added that due to fault of the R&B department, the contractor and the Municipality officials, the innocent people who after toiling hard are constructing their homes were facing the miseries and burnt of the Contractor and Departmental apathy. They said that the road from Bus Stand to Kuleed Chowk lacks proper drainage and further said that due to seasons first rainfall, the dirty and muddy water enter into their home .
The people urged upon the President Municipal Committee Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger to look into the matter and prevent them from day to day miseries which people suffered due to poor drainage.
Similarly the inhabitants of Umar Mohallah also suffered due to non availability of proper drainage. The entire water coming from top of the hillside with NHPC colony uphill side, the rain water spills on the road cause lot of inconvenience to the inhabitants. They said that they brought the matter into the notice of District Administration several time, but administration too fails to take up the matter with NHPC for construction of proper drainage system.
The drains near SSP Office spill on Kishtwar main road near Sangrabata causes lot of inconvenience to the people.
The drains falling within Municipal limits of Kishtwar are fill up with mud and sand and has hardly been cleared from the silt since last nearly two decades. The shopkeepers demands immediate clearing of silt from drains so that such situations could be avoided in coming days during rainfall.
