Jammu, July 12: Accusing previous BJP, Congress governments for overlooking their issues, the residents of Ashok Nagar near Nai Basti said that they have been continuously confronting with several civic issues including dilapidated drains and lanes.
Continuing his mass contact programme, Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency met the residents of Ashok Nagar today and heard their problems. He also put forth his vision before them for contesting elections. The people welcomed his move and assured him of their full support.
DRAINS/ LANES
"The drains, lanes are in dilapidated condition which need urgent repair but the concerned leaders give only assurances but did nothing. The grills which were put on drains for covering were removed months ago for their replacement with new ones which have till date not been replaced due to which the drains are lying open. No cleanliness of drains is done by the authority concerned.
Moreover, the residents are facing huge problem in rainy season due to leakage of canal and the water of canal enter into drains. We asked the department to take immediate action but it has turned deaf ears," said Pushpa, Mohinder Kumar, Satish Sharma, Antima, Bhajan Kour, Dhruv, Jeet Ram.
POVERTY
Kamla Devi, a poor woman, who lives alone and has no source said: "I am living in poverty but the government does not help. I have APL ration card and trying to get BPL but concerned dealer is reluctant to help ," she said.
Another woman, Raj Kumari, whose parents died long ago is also living alone and earns her livelihood by washing utensil in houses in her locality. One of the rooms of her house collapsed and the other one in which she is living now leaks in rainy days. Even she has no toilet facility. "The survey of my house for toilet facility was conducted by government department many a time but nothing happened till date," she said adding that her house is down from lane level due to which rain water find no passage for its outlet.
WATER
"The area is without water for the past three months. We get very little water which is insufficient for us to meet our daily needs. We lodged a complaint to the department but no action has been taken till date,' said Mangli Devi.
"There are two water supply lines in our area and one of them is not working properly, thus many houses remains without water supply. The department should take cognizance of the matter to solve this problem," said Deepak Jamwal.
VOTER CARDS
"We are three members in the family whose voter cards are not made. We have been asking for the help to the concerned leader but he is not helping us to enrol our names in voter list," said Sunita.
ELECTRIC POLES
"The electric poles installed adjoining our house have been posing serious threat to lives. Our children play near these electric poles, we requested to the PDD for their realignment but they did nothing and took our request lightly," said Satpal H. No 633.
RATION CARD
"It has been three years since the forms for Ration Cards were sought but till date we have not been issued the same. Whenever we visit the department, we are replied that their farms will be made online and this process will take time," Veenu Rani.
STREET LIGHTS
"The LED street lights have not been installed in all lanes, and some of them are lying defunct due to which it is difficult to pass through these lanes in the night hour. We want street light should be installed across the area and it should be ensured that all these light should work properly," said Purshotam Gupta.
