After Mirwaiz, now Geelani softens stand, urges KPs to return home
Separatists cut down to size finally?
7/16/2019 12:07:38 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 15: There is a serious drift in the stand of the separatists being witnessed in Kashmir as both the conglomerates while shunning the macho approach have begun urging Kashmiri pandits to return to their homeland.
After Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, it was the Huriyat Hawk Syed Ali Geelani who has come out of the oblivion, asking Kashmiri pandits to return to their roots without delay. "Let them come back, live as they previously used to, along with their Muslim brothers. We wholeheartedly and sincerely want them to come back, but will oppose any move to settle them in separate colonies as it negates the very fabric of our social, cultural and mutual bonds."
Prior to this, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made the similar appeal. "The members of Kashmiri Pandit community visited me on the occasion of Mela Khirbhawani and urged me to play a role with regard to their return to the Valley as they are very keen to return. I told them that every Kashmiri wants to see them back here. For me the return of Kashmiri Pandits is a human and ethical issue and those who want to return should be facilitated by one and all. The Kashmiri Pandit delegation made it clear that they don't want to live in separate colonies but want to live with the Muslim community here, as always. I told them that we will provide them all help and assistance possible at our end for this. On their second meeting with us, together it was decided that a panel including Ulemas, Civil society members Pandits living in the Valley and others will be formed to facilitate their return and help build trust among the communities," Mirwaiz was quoted by the reports as having said.
Kashmiri pandits had appealed to the central Government headed to decisively intervene into the matter of their return and rehabilitation in separate townships in Kashmir in order to restore the confidence of the Kashmiri Pandits who had welcomed the important steps taken regarding return by them till now. KP leaders then also criticised the Hurriyat Conference, JKLF and all the other main stream political parties who have been objecting to the establishment of concentrated settlements for the Pandits.
Geelani had back then demanded the return of all the people who have migrated from Kashmir Valley since 1947- something he hasn't said till now. Geelani said that resolution passed by administration on Thursday is incomplete until and unless 15 Lakh Kashmiris who were forced to migrate from valley in the year 1947, 1965 and 1971, are called back to Kashmir.
Now after three long years, there are chances that the colonies would get established and a ray of hope will be accorded to the pandit community.
Pertinent to mention here that on May 27, 2016 Kashmir witnessed shutdown after the separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz issued a unanimous strike call against the making of the pandit colonies in Kashmir.
