Early Times Report
srinagar, July 19: The appointment of Assistant Professors (contractual) at the University of Kashmir has turned out to be a 'goldmine' for some of the teaching faculty members of the varsity with the prescribed rules being flouted like anything in this regard.
Early Times has learnt from sources that the appointment of Assistant Professors (contractual) at the Faculty of Social Sciences has come under a cloud since favouritism has come to the fore in this whole episode. Some of the higher ups of the faculty are virtually playing with the career of aspirants who are appearing in the interviews for the contractual teaching positions.
"It was in March this year that the University of Kashmir appointed contractual lecturers in the various departments. Clear cut directions were issued to the heads of the departments that services of the contractual lecturers should be utilized for the entire year and there should be no fresh recruitment in this regard," said sources.
Sources said that flouting the rules and regulations and paying no heed to the directions issued, a fresh recruitment notice of contractual lecturers in the departments coming under the Social Sciences Faculty was issued very recently. They said the interview process for these posts is going on at present.
"Just few days back the Head of a particular department of the Faculty of Social Sciences virtually ran away from the interview room. This happened as the nominee of Vice Chancellor and the Dean of the Faculty were discussing ways and means to improve the grade and increase the marks of the blue eyed candidates so as to accommodate them as contractual lecturers," said sources.
Sources said that aspirants who have completed their degrees from renowned varsities like Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia were virtually ditched since the top guns of the Faculty want the blue eyed candidates to be appointed as contractual lecturers.
"The aspirants who came from the different varsities spent huge amount on the air fare and they were hoping to join the University of Kashmir as contractual lecturers. Their hopes were dashed as they came to know that blue eyed candidates would make it to the list and they would not figure anywhere," said sources.
Sources said the huge money spent by the aspirants is all set to go down the drain since they in all likelihood are not going to be appointed as contractual lecturers at the University of Kashmir. They said that all this is going under the nose of university administration and no action whatsoever has been taken so far in the matter so far.
