Absence of two senior leaders in party's vital meet raises eye brows
After south, rebellion hits PDP's north block
7/20/2019 12:42:47 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 19: Trouble for the PDP seems to be unending for now with some senior leaders ready to leave the party and join rival political camps.
Recently, a high level meeting of the PDP's north Kashmir leadership was held in Srinagar. What raised eye brows was the absence of two senior leaders from the meeting- Abdul Haq Khan and Nizam-ud-din Bhat. Both were holding key positions when PDP was part of the coalition government with the BJP. While. Abdul Haq Khan held key portfolio of law and parliamentary affairs in Mehbooba Mufti's cabinet, Bhat was given plum posting of Vice Chairman Muslim Waqf Board.
However, there are reports that both these leaders are likely to bid adieu to the PDP. While there are reports that Haq may join Congress, Bhat is likely to join hands with the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone.
The absence of these two leaders from the party meeting has also hinted that the rebellion may take steam and further complicate the matters within.
Nizam-ud-din Bhat last year in October had come out with a detailed statement hinting at his differences within the party. He opposed party's decision to boycott the ULB polls, claiming that by virtue of the boycott of the polls, the party has paved way for the BJP to infiltrate into Kashmir's politics and claim majority in the state legislature. He even added that the decision to boycott the ULB polls was a wrong one and needs rectification.
"As the unpopular local body polls proceed with state power on display, a sinister design to change the character of legislature is unfolding. BJP and state machinery are brazenly managing to enact the hoax of election and get BJP nominees through and later grab all the six seats reserved for urban local bodies and Panchayats in state's legislative council. Once that happens BJP-managed majority in the house will become legislatively capable to defeat all and any law that doesn't suit RSS agenda.
Seemingly the way for this is clear as BJP and New Delhi brazenly defile democratic institutions by way of giving control to its surrogates, unfortunately, PDP-NC boycott is not proving enough to foil the BJP game plan," the leader was quoted as having said in a statement.
Prior to this, it was Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who in open upped the ante against the PDP. He even hinted at joining Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone.
Castigating the party's approach over burying its self rule document for Kashmir issue resolution, Beigh had said that the document would now look obsolete. "PDP's self rule now looked like an obsolete document as the idea was never going to be possible unless Hurriyat and Pakistan accepted it," Beigh said.
Beigh also slammed the PDP's ministers for leaving the party president- Mehboba Mufti- alone during her tough time. He stated that soon after she took over the reins of power in the state, she was engulfed by the 2016 agitation and that none of her party ministers provided her any sort of emotional and moral support.
