Mehbooba dissolves PAC to avoid split in PDP on July 28

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 21: Decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti to dissolve party's highest decision-making body, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) has stunned many senior leaders of the party. Mehbooba has taken this decision without taking any senior leader into confidence.
Credible sources said Mehbooba has dissolved PAC only to save division on the party on July 28, which is 20thfoundation day of the PDP. She, sources said, aware that party is going to be splited on July 28 so she took this decision to avoid division in the party. "Mehbooba will try to pacify annoyed leaders before July 28 with a promise that they would be accommodated in the PAC", sources said.
Interestingly Mehbooba Mufti had constituted PAC some months back after senior leaders had started deserting the party alleging that PDP has been hijacked by drawing room politicians who have never faced elections in their lives. Dissolving the newly constituted PAC has surprised many leaders, sources said.
A PDP spokesman said on Saturday the PAC would be reconstituted soon. "Mehbooba Mufti dissolved the party's PAC and it will be reconstituted in near future," the spokesman said.
The dissolution of the highest decision-making body took place less than a week ahead of the PDP's 20th foundation day anniversary which is being observed on July 28.
After the fall of the PDP-BJP government last year, the PDP has faced a series of defections and nearly 15 top leaders, including the former minister and legislators, have quit the party.
Just four days ago, the PDP got a new jolt when the founding member of the party, former minister Khalil Bandh, resigned from the primary membership of the party. Bandh has joined NC today in the presence of Dr Farooq Abdullah.
