Early Times Report

Jammu, July 22: Channi Rama, which falls within Municipal limits has been without public transport facility for long.
The more shocking part is that successive governments have failed to solve this problem even after 30 years when SRTC buses used to connect it with rest of the region.
Continuing his mass contact programme, Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting forthcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency visited Channi Rama area and met the residents and informed them about his vision.
Apart from other civic issues of the area, the residents, whom Editor Early Times met, raised their major problem of absence of public transport facility in one voice, due to which people are facing huge inconvenience.
"There is no public transport facility in this area which has population in thousands.
Last time in 1986 when SRTC buses used to ply in this area and since then no other provision of transportation has been provided in our area. Non availability of transportation has adversely affected the students who have to face huge inconvenience to get transport facility to reach schools, colleges and university. Girl students are the main sufferer of this apathy of government as plenty of time is wasted in catching matadors reach back home late. We feel that we are living in some remotest area in the Jammu where transport usually remains elusive but fact of the matter is that our area is within municipal limits and five kilometres from Jammu city yet we have been facing transport facility problem. Earlier there was route from Jammu to Chowadi via Channi Rama but the facility was stopped ever since the establishment of police line in this area as the road was passing through it," said Tiranth Singh Jamwal, Kavita Jamwal, Neelam Jamwal, Swatanter Singh, Tanvi, Arjun.
Avatar Singh, another resident informed Munish Gupta that recently her wife's leg got fractured and he had no personal transport facility to get her to hospital due to which he had to face huge problem. "Even an auto facility is not available here during medical emergency. I have to take her for regular medical examination to doctor. We wrote number of applications to RTO Jammu to provide transport facility but nothing has been done till date.
Raising sanitation issue of the area, Chander Kanta said that there no garbage bin has been installed in our area resulting people throw garbage in open which remain unattended for days. "The concerned authority hardly visits for cleaning due to which it gives bad picture of the area. Cows eat garbage along with polythene, which injure their health and concerned department should give attention towards this grave problem," she said. Jasbinder Singh that their area lack street lights at many places and some street lights which are installed are not functioning. "Even the lanes are dilapidated at many places, the tiles are broken which have not been repaired," he said.
Khurshid Rana, resident of Rehmat Colony said that the power curtailments have made their life miserable. "Apart from unscheduled power cuts, the power cables in our area are worn out and get broken whenever load increases.
We want that insulated cables should be laid to get rid of power fluctuation and cuts," he said.
