LPG distributor in Sunderbani 'looting locals' | | | AB Sharma Early Times Report
Sunderbani, July 23: A distributor of HP's LPG in Sunderbani has been allegedly looting gullible people who receive gas connections under Pradan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna (PMUY) scheme. The PMUY is a centrally-sponsored scheme to provide free gas connections to the poor people, but it is being used by some vested interests to make easy money. "The distributor issued some 7000 LPG gas connections under PMUY during 2018-19. Each customer is supposed to receive a gas cylinder, a stove and a regulator. But the distributor motivated most of the beneficiaries not to purchase stove by spreading a rumour that the stove is of low quality. He then sold other stoves to the customers and charged extra Rs 925 for each unit," sources said. They said the poor people fell into the distributor's trap and bought gas stove by paying extra Rs 925. Sources informed that there was no difference between the gas stove given by the government and the one sold by the distributor, which clearly shows that the stove was sold with the motive of earning profit in the name of central scheme. More shockingly, the distributor didn't give cash bill for the stove to the customers and it has been apprehended that the HP officials are also involved into this scam. The locals appealed to the authorities concerned to probe the matter and also demanded that an FIR should be lodged against the gas distributor. |
