Police soft on land grabbers & hard on whistleblower
State land being sold by mafia at Marh tehsil
7/24/2019 12:55:28 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 23: A land mafia has allegedly been encroaching upon State land at Rajpura area of Tehsil Marh and selling it unabatedly but concerned departments have closed their eyes deliberately towards this grave issue ostensibly for their vested interest.
Sources informed that this land mafia is very much active and flourishing in this area has gradually been encroaching upon Chenab River bed. "The kingpin of this mafia has been illegally purchasing and selling State land in the Chenab river bed and for realizing his nefarious designs, he had moved an application for prohibitory injunction over 50 Kanals and 18 Marlas of State land falling in Khasra No. 482 of Panchayat Panjore of Tehsil Marh which was quashed by the court," they said.
The said piece of State land which is adjoined to Minor Forest Produce (MFP) closure Garkhal was purchased by this land grabber with the motive to encroach upon the adjoining Forest closure too but a local whistleblower filed a PIL before the High Court to save this huge chunk of State land, they informed.
"Recently the alleged land grabber got constructed a water tank inside MFP Forest closure Kanachak and when this issue was reported to the Forest officials, they partially dismantled it but did not file an Police complaint against him," they said.
They further said that in order to put a brake on the crusade launched by the whistleblower, the land mafia lodged a complaint with Police Station Kanachak and made baseless and frivolous allegations against the him and without taking cognizance of the matter, the police has summoned the activist thrice to the Police Station and have warned him to desist from his activities against land grabbers.
Whistleblower lodged complaint with Governor Grievance Cell demanding a high level inquiry into the matter and instructing Anti Corruption Branch to investigate sale and purchase of State land in Chenab river bed at Panchayat Panjore and ask Police Authorities to stop further harassment of whistleblower, they said.
