| Paragliding destination in Pancheri still a distant dream | | |  Arun Jasrotia

UDHAMPUR, Aug 13: Paragliding potential in Meer area of tehsil Pancheri of district Udhampur was identified by the Tourism Department in the year 2009, accordingly construction was started for the earmarked destination but even after 10 years only plinth was laid while the remaining work was stalled. Pertinently, in the year 2009 paragliding trials were successfully conducted by an internationally acclaimed paraglider in the lofty and scenic hills of Pancheri which raised the hopes of new vistas of adventure sports for the enthusiasts within and outside the country but Pancheri still waits for paragliding destination.
Naib Sarpanch Upper Meer said that its very unfortunate that despite having huge potential to attract the tourists, the Tourism Department did not take sufficient steps to promote Pancheri as a tourists hub adding that incomplete construction of Paragliding destination is a proof of department's indifferent attitude.
Another local Mahatam Singh said that 10 years ago plinth for Paragliding destination was laid after spending huge money but thereafter the project was abandoned due to unknown reasons. |
