Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 14: Both Central Universities of Jammu and Kashmir continue to face acute shortage of Professor and Associate professor with hundreds of post are lying vacant, thereby adversely affecting the research programme in both the university.
As per the available information with Early Times revealed that that in both the higher education institution including Central University of Jammu (CUJ) and Central University of Kashmir (CUK) have sanction post of Professor is 49 wherein 24 were sanctioned post of Professor in CUJ while 25 have been sanctioned in CUK.
"Against the sanctioned strength, 20 each post of Professors are lying in both the university while only four post were filled in CUJ and five were filled in CUK since the universities were established", said sources while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that against the sanctioned strength of Associate professor in Central University of Jammu only nine posts were filled and remaining 35 were vacant besides in Central University of Kashmir sanctioned strength of Associate Professor was 51 and only 4 were fulfilled and remaining 47 were lying vacant due to unknown reasons.
However, Central University of Jammu is giving satisfactory picture in appointment of Assistant professor wherein out of 91 sanctioned post, 83 are fulfilled and only is vacant but ironically the Central University of Kashmir depicts grim picture in appointment of Assistant Professors against the 119 sanctioned strength only 62 are fulfilled and 57 are lying vacant.
Sources informed that in both the universities, the Assistant professors were manning the departments in absence of Associate Professors and Professors post. "In CUJ, the administration have appointed 4 guest faculty and 22 Assistant professor on contractual basis whereas in Central University of Kashmir has engaged nearly 57 on contractual basis.
However, the Central University of Jammu came into existence in August, 2011 whereas the CUK was established in March, 2009 but due to nonchalant attitude successive governments, both of them are understaffed in term of appointment of Professors and Associate Professors, resulting research programme allotted by universities concerned are adversely affected.
