Atal Behari Vajpayee equally revered all region of J&K: Prof Gupta
8/17/2019 11:19:04 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 17: Atal Behari Vajpayee was the sole Prime Minister who was equally revered in all regions- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as also by many even in Pakistan, this was stated by the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta while interacting with the group of Fans of Shri Atal ji on the eve of first death anniversary of the great leader.
Prof. Gupta said that the first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru was popular in Kashmir because of his support to Sheikh Mohd Abdullah though the later was apparently working for having his fiefdom. But he was not liked in Jammu and Ladakh for various reasons especially Nehru's animosity towards Maharaja Hari Singh despite the Maharaja was a great nationalist and have signed the Instrument of Accession with Indian Union instead of theocratic Pakistan despite many pulls and pressures.
He recalled that Vajpayee became quite popular in the Valley when he announced that all problems in Kashmir would be sorted out under the ambit of "Jammuhriat, Insaniyat and Kashmiryat."
About Pakistan, Vajpayee had observed that friends can be changed but not the neighbours. Hence as a statesman the Prime Minister travelled in a bus to Lahore to sign the peace 'Declaration of Lahore' to be friend with the neighbour. It is a different sad story that how the military General of Pakistan sabotaged the Lahore Agreement by having deceitful intrusions in Kargil and created difficult situation for India.
Prof. Gupta who was a Minister of State for Defence in the Ministry of Vajpayee, also recalled that being a great patriot, the Prime Minister Vajpayee demonstrated a great determination to protect every inch of the Indian land and the enemy who had entrenched at the tops of Kargil hills in large numbers were eliminated facing all the odds and most difficult situation was overcome. And the valour demonstrated by the brave hearts is still celebrated as Vijay Diwas on July 26th, to pay tributes to the heroes of Kargil war.
He also pointed out that Jammu had been an attraction of Shri Vajpayee since fifties and was a votary of Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan and Ek Pradhan but his popularity in the land of Dogras gained more heights when his Government at the Centre in 2002, managed the induction of Dogri language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.
