Halted transfers in School Edu proves boon for teachers staying in cities
8/18/2019 11:26:54 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 18: The transfer process in the School Education department has been halted for the last many couple of months, which has been proving a boon for those teachers, who have been staying in the city areas, while a bane for those teachers, who have been serving in hilly and difficult areas for the last many years.
Sources in the School Education department informed that though the department has recently shifted some of the Incharge Headmasters but the teachers have been waiting for their transfers for the last many years.
"Many teachers were posted in the far flung areas of the region by the department while those influential teachers had managed to stay in the city areas, by using various tactics", sources said, adding that these teachers were never touched by the department during the transfers, while those without having any influence have been shifted to far flung areas.
Few months back the Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of various districts had sought applications from desirous teachers, who had completed their tenure and were seeking transfers. The lists were forwarded by the CEOs to higher authorities for their approval but failed to get green signal, due to which the process was halted again.
"As per transfer policy, a teacher has to serve two years in a hilly area after which s/he has to revert back to city area but there are many teachers who have not served in the far flung areas, in their entire service career while those, who holds no influence have to serve in difficult areas", a teacher said, adding that those, who have been overstaying in the city areas, needed to be shifted to hilly areas.
During the elected governments, these influential teachers have been enjoying political patronage and managed their stay at the choicest places and hopes were pinned during the Governor rule, to streamline the system but so far nothing has been done. "The Governor administration must initiate a process to identity the teachers, who have been overstaying in city areas for years together and take action for their continuous stay in the city areas, while the deserving teachers must be given their due share of postings", the teacher said.
