Admin says internet snapped due to technical glitch, Police warns of strict action

Jammu, Aug 18: Responding to the rumours on snapping on the internet services in Jammu along with other districts, the Administration appealed that not to believe in rumours and warned of strict action against rumours mongers to disrupt the peaceful environment.
On Sunday, the 2G mobile internet services once again snapped -36 hours after the service was restored in five districts of the Jammu region. Since Sunday morning the various rumours of violence as well as reimposition of section 144 were being circulated in Jammu and other districts too.
Taking to Early Times, Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma claimed that all the rumours were being circulated are baseless as there is complete normalcy in Jammu division and urged people not to pay any heed to rumours and maintain peace and harmony.
On being asked why internet services have been suspended, Div Com replied that due to a technical glitch, as the services has snapped and Telecom companies are working on it, it will be restored as soon as possible. However, the mobile internet services remain suspended in some districts as preventive measures, he added. He also said that schools and college will remain open tomorrow.
IGP Jammu, through facebook page, informed that a lot of rumour was being circulated regarding some incident in Rajouri or at Gujjar Nagar Jammu. There is also a rumour regarding a strike in Jammu due to which there are long queues at petrol pumps. "I would like to inform all the citizens through the media that all such rumours are false. No incident has taken place anywhere as is being circulated. ". The 2G network has temporarily been disconnected due to some technical reasons which is being rectified and efforts are on to ensure reconnectivity as soon as possible. "I would also like to reiterate that rumour mongers will be dealt with strictly".
Similarly, rumours were being spread in Rajouri district about some untoward incident took place, acting swiftly. SSP Rajouri appealed that not to believe in rumours and warned of strict action against rumours mongers to disrupt the peaceful environment in the district. SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas said that rumours were being spread about some untoward incident, law and order problem in Rajouri district. "It is clarified that no such incident has taken place anywhere in territorial jurisdiction of Rajouri district and situation is completely peaceful and normal like as it should be, "statement states, adding that BSNL mobile services stand restored since Saturday morning and other services shall also be restored. Schools have already started functioning.
