Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 19: Basic civic amenities are still a distant dream for residents of Bazigarh and Harijan Basti of Bagh-e-Bahu area and they alleged that incumbent Councillors had made tall claims to provide basic amenities but failed to deliver what they promised us before election.
While interacting with Early Times' team residents alleged that however before Municipal Corporation election, the local corporators as well as former MLAs either of BJP and Congress had made developmental promises but after getting elected they forgotten our miseries like dilapidated by lanes and lanes, lack of dustbins and even the streetlights which are installed at main chowk near Peer Baba is lying defunct.
Rakesh Verma, Pappu Kumar and Bablu residents of Bazigarh Basti informed that nearly five month ago, the department concerned had started lying down sewerage pipes and uprooted all the lanes and by lanes. Now the work is almost completed but our lanes are still not restored, resulting, the potholes developed on the lanes are posing threat to human lives and motorcycle riders.
"the callousness on part of local councillors can be gauged from this fact that the areas come under limits of Ward no 47 and 48 and both the councillors are alleged each others for ignoring the areas but none of them is seems bothered about the areas", said Darshan Kumar and added that just opposite to entrance of Bagh-e-Bahu park, the main mast street light was installed years back and now its two tube lights have gone defunct but after repeated pleas at every front no body have come forward to restore it.
Maya Devi, a septuagenarian told that our lanes has turned dilapidated after uprooting by department while lying sewerage pipes and drains system is totally chocked but nobody come here to repair it.
Swarna Devi, Mailo devi and Reeta said that due to irregular water supply that too for few minutes are making our lives miserable. However before election, the independent councillor had promised us that new water supply pipes would be laid down and thereafter twice a day, the water supply would be maintained but neither the pipes have been laid down not water supply come regular.
"Except Mast streetlight which is partially out of order and most of the streetlight are not functional. However, in this regard, we even file a complaints before the department concerned either online or offline but our pleas have yield nothing", said Madan Lal and Desh Raj.
Subesh Chander and Dharam Veer said that despite repeated pleas before the local councillor and former MLAs of BJP and Congress for deputed a regular sanitation employees for carrying out cleanliness and installation of dustbin at some junction but ironically due to nonchalant attitude of department concerned, the residents are being forced to dump garbage in open near the entrance of Bagh-e-Bahu gate which become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies.
