New Delhi, Aug 19: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday over the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This was for the first time that Ajit Doval met Amit Shah after his return from the Kashmir Valley two days back.
Ajit Doval was in Jammu and Kashmir for about 10 days and personally monitored the situation after the Centre announced its move to nullify Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir. There were restrictions imposed on movement of people and communication links snapped in Jammu and Kashmir following the move on August 5.
On Monday, Ajit Doval apprised Amit Shah about the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and other top officials also attended the meeting that reviewed the steps taken to maintain the law and order situation in the state.
The issues related to restrictions imposed in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir also figured in the meeting, an official was quoted as saying by news agency.
On August 4, all communication lines were snapped across Kashmir, including landlines, ahead of the Centre's announcement on August 5 of abrogating Article 370.
What is the present situation in Kashmir?
Restrictions have gradually lifted in some areas in Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley. Schools have reopened where teachers reported to work but not many students turned up.
The government has made special arrangements for opening 190 primary schools in Srinagar city. In Srinagar, barricades were removed from a number of areas. The situation is reported to be normal now; however, security forces remained deployed in most of the Valley.
