Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 19: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has suspended two BSNL officers associated with separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani after it was found that he had internet access for four days during the intensive clampdown in the state.
When the entire Valley was shut down and all communication lines across the state were snapped for over a week, Hurriyat leader Geelani was found tweeting from his account.
On August 4, all communication lines were snapped across Kashmir, including landlines, ahead of the Centre's announcement on August 5 of abrogating Article 370.
Top politicians and former chief ministers of the state, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah were detained and put under house arrest along with hundreds others.
However, amid the severe restrictions, hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had landline as well as broadband facility available till August 8 morning.
Authorities had no clue that Geelani was accessing internet in Kashmir until he tweeted from his account, sources told .
After this, the Centre and J&K Police wrote to Twitter asking for the suspension of 8 Twitter accounts, including that of Geelani, saying these accounts were spreading hatred in the Valley.
Authorities have started an investigation into the matter as to how did Geelani het internet and landline access when no one else had it.
BSNL has moved against two top officers in this connection and blocked access to Geelani after authorities came to know about loopholes in the department.
