Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: With the State Government eased restrictions in the summer capital and other districts of Kashmir province in a phased manner, the markets in uptown areas here have resumed business.
Much against the general perception that the people of Kashmir are not happy with the decision of revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the traders in uptown areas like Jawahar Nagar, Sanat Nagar have resumed normal work.
From grocery to hardware stores to ice cream parlours, almost all sale outlets are doing brisk business in these areas. "Our business grew more than 400 times than the routine days," said a trader on the condition of anonymity.
He said the people of Kashmir have learnt from past mistakes that hartal politics doesn't work in the interest of people. "Not the common man but the politicians make fortune out of hartal and thus we are not with strikes. Moreover when Modi ji has said that this decision is in the interest of J&K State why should we criticize it," said another trader.
"The removal of special status will bring in healthy competition that is supposed to be something good for the people in general," said an observer.
It is pertinent to mention that Kashmir had been under restriction since revocation of the special status on August 5 affecting the public mobility and the telecommunication services. But after the Independence Day celebrations were held, the restrictions are being eased out and schools were scheduled to reopen in city of Srinagar from Monday August 19.
As per the government, around 200 primary schools have resumed activities whereas more schools and colleges will open in coming days. Meanwhile the reopening of market in Srinagar areas and the reopening of schools in being seen as a good omen by the security analysts.
