Some Balmiki families had PRC in year 1957, says Kavinder Gupta
8/21/2019 9:57:56 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 21: Contrary to the general notion created by saffron party about denial of Permanent Resident Certificate (PRCs) to all the members of Balmiki Samaj in last 70 years, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Kavinder Gupta has claimed that some Balmiki families had already got the PRC in the year 1957.
As per press release forwarded by the BJP office, it has been claimed that Kavinder Gupta had an interaction with a delegation of Civil Safai Karamchari Union led by president Rinku Gill, wherein he claimed that Safai Karmchari of Balmiki Samaj were brought in J&K from Amritsar and Gurdaspur on the assurance of grant of PRC status by the then government in 1957 but later nothing was done in this regard. He further claimed that the State Subjects were provided to a few families in 1957 only and thereafter no one was treated as J&K citizen.
The statement was in complete contrast to the repeated statements being made by several ministers as well as BJP stalwarts, who have been claiming that all the Balmiki Samaj was denied citizenship by successive state government.
Kavinder Gupta said that the abrogation of Article 370 will now clear decks for treating Balmiki Samaj people as state subjects and they too will lead dignified lives with their family members getting all the benefits enjoyed by other citizens. "The BJP has all along struggled for grant of citizenship rights to Balmiki Samaj and finally very positive development has taken place," Kavinder said, adding that the young generation of this community is worst hit and now they too will be benefitted.
The members of delegation included General Secretary Kulvinder, Razak, Bhatti, Vicky Lawrance, Halley Sohotra, Pooja, Balbir, Salim, Gulshan, Meenu, Polla.
