Reasi, Aug 22: Former Indian President Abdul Kalam Azad had said, "Education imparted by heart can bring revolution in the society", but education is imparted in proper schools which remote village Kundra in hilly District Reasi is lacking.
There is a pressing need to upgrade Government High School in the state which is awaiting one since 1985 due to which the students passing out high school, have to travel 'to and fro', a distance of 70 to 80 kilometres to get their higher education. As children especially young girls have to traverse long distances from Kundra village , situated around 40 kilometres from the Reasi town, it is proving to a be a " pull back " factor for many of them in their pursuit of pursuing higher studies. The villagers however, have complained to the authorities concerned for ignoring their long pending demand of upgrading Government High School, Kundra to Government Higher Secondary School. Surprisingly, most of the girls of village Kundra, either have to take the route or give up pursuing higher studies, due to the distance they have to travel to reach to the Government Higher Secondary School, Reasi. Having a population of around 1200 habitats, the Kundra village has four Panchayats and around 60 students, daily visiting to Reasi for higher studies. "The School was first established in the year 1929 as a primary school and in 1977, it was upgraded to Middle School and in 1985, institution was upgraded to High School," Bodh Raj, Ex-Sarpanch of village Kundar here said. |
