Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: All J&K Transporters Welfare Association chairman T S Wazir has claimed that the transporters are facing huge losses due to the prevailing situation in the state adding that the militancy and now abrogation of Article 370 has badly hit the transporter operators.
Addressing a press conference here today which was attended by the transporters of Jammu province including the presidents/representatives of all transport unions viz a viz buses, trucks, oil tankers, mini-buses/ Matadors, Sumos/ Taxies Auto-rikshwas unions, the chairman TS Wazir expressed serious concern over the situation arisen, post abrogation of Article 370 in the J&K and massive losses being suffered by the transporters and starvation being faced by many operators.
Singh expressed great resentment towards the attitude of State/Central Government. They said the State is already passing through crucial stage due to militancy since long and now with the current situation and bandhs, the transporters are facing huge losses.
"The Government is going to impose 9 % and 10 % one-time tax on the new vehicles from September 2, 2019, it would again exert heavy burden on the general public and transporters. This tax is huge as compared to neighbouring states," Singh said.
"Whereas the Govt of India also rolled back the rate of new registration fees upto June 2020 but the State Govt, is going to impose such onetime heavy tax on all transport vehicles of J&K which is totally discriminatory and unjustifiable," he added.
The Association urged upon the Governor SP Malik and the Advisor K Skandan to intervene into the matter and come to the rescue of the transporters and also review their decision to impose 9-10 % tax on the new vehicles.
