Jammu, Aug 30: A half day workshop on Plastic Waste Management was organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation in association with J&K State Pollution Control Board (JKSPCB) and Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), a Delhi based NGO dealing in waste management at Cygnett Park Asia Hotel today on 30.08.19. The workshop was attended by approx. 100 people from different sectors. Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, JMC, Adv. Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor, JMC, Suraj Parkash Padha, Chairman, Swachh Bharat Standing Committee , Baldev Singh Billowaria, Chairman, Public Health Sanitation Commiitee, Jeet Angral, Chairman, Social Justice Committee Pankaj Magotra (KAS), Commissioner, JMC, Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain, Regional Director, JKSPCB, Dr. G.N. Qasba, Senior Advisor, IRADe, New Delhi, Aproov Shah from Reliance Industries Limited, Pawan Shastri, Rajat of TRASH-X, Producers, Brand owners, Scrap Dealers, Recyclers attended the workshop and shared their views and suggestions to make Jammu free from littered Plastic by effectively diverting the plastic waste to recyclers.. Mayor, JMC encouraged industrialists suffering from the closure of their plastic industries due to the ban imposed on single use plastic items and disposables to take up alternate non-plastic products made of compostable material. Pankaj Magotra, Commissioner, JMC said that the Corporation understands its responsibility in Plastic Waste Management and is keen to work with stakeholders to earn city a plastic bags free tag shortly. He informed that JMC shall soon run a special campaign in schools for collection of plastic bags by students volunteers as a runup to 2nd October, 2019 in line with the announcement made by Prime Minister of India. He also mentioned that JMC has signed MoU with IPCA to run a plastic waste collection centre at Jammu which will improve the collection and recycling rate of plastic waste Mr. households with scrap dealers for home collection of plastic waste. |
