BJP releases clip on Art 370 to blame ''historical blunder'' on Nehru
9/4/2019 6:46:44 PM

New Delhi, Sep 4

The BJP on Wednesday launched a 10-minute video clip that blames the Kashmir problem on former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, even as BJP President Amit Shah and BJP Working President J.P. Nadda met former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan on Tuesday as part of the BJP''s month-long ''Sampark and Janjagran Abhiyan''.

The 9-minute-59-second infographic is titled ''Anucched 370 ka nirastikaran: Ek aitihasik bhul ka sudhar'' (Abrogation of Article 370: Undoing a historical blunder).

It gives a crisp glimpse as to why Article 370 was brought in, how it was allowed to stay inspite of being labelled ''temporary''.

The clip starts with Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s speech this year from the Red Fort, "If you were so much convicted (about Article 370), you should have come forward and made it permanent. But even you knew that what happened was wrong. But you lacked the ''himmat'' (courage) to undo it".

It highlights how soon after independence, Sardar Patel was given the responsibility to unify the 562 provinces which he did. But the responsibility to unify J&K with India was kept away from him by Nehru, claims the video released by BJP.

It blames the issue on India''s first Prime Minister for taking the matter to the United Nations, for bringing in Article 370 in the first place and thus creating a dispute out of nothing.

BJP has called the contentious Article that has now been abrogated as the root cause of terrorism and bloodbath in the valley.

The video that will be circulated across India has shown BJP and Jan Sangh''s "commitment to abrogating Article 370". "When we were two or we are 303 (number of MPs), we were always committed to this," says the narrator of the clip.

By bringing in how its mentor Syama Prasad Mukherjee marched to then J&K and died under mysterious circumstances for its unification with India and how former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee fought for the cause, a careful narrative is being spun by the BJP of those who are for and those who are against the abrogation.

Old photos of Modi trying to hoist the tricolour in Srinagar only add to that narrative.

The fact that BJP uses Hindi as the medium of communication for this clip shows it''s target audience is mainly in north and western part of India and the ''aam aadmi''.

Sources in BJP say not only will it be shown in BJP offices right at the block levels but will simultaneously be circulated through WhatsApp among pro-BJP groups.

As the saffron party embarked on a massive outreach programme with Shah and Nadda meeting former J&K Governor Jagmohan in Delhi, this clip will only add teeth to the ferocity with which it wants to reach out and cash in electorally in the upcoming Assembly elections in four states including Maharashtra and Haryana.
