DDC reviews working of Handicraft, Handloom Deptt

KATHUA SEPTEMBER 04: District Development Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer, today stressed on the need of promoting Basohli Paintings, Bamboo cultivation and other works of art, craft, weaving, during a review meeting of Handicraft and Handloom departments.

The meeting was attended by Chief Planning officer, Uttam Singh, Assistant Commissioner Development, Sukhpal Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, Rahul Singh, Assistant Director, Handloom, Haroon Rashid Naik, District Nodal Officer JKSRLM besides other officials of Handloom and Handicraft department.

For promotion of Basohli Paintings, it was decided that skill development courses shall be conducted in three border blocks of Marheen, Hiranagar and Nagri of the district under BADP. The reputed artists shall be engaged for imparting the trainings and improving the skills of the unemployed.

The DDC underlined the need for increasing the land cover under Bamboo cultivation and asked the Forest Department to provide quality Bamboo saplings to the farmers to get best quality produce. He asked for taking up necessary steps to strengthen marketing of Bamboo products, especially those of handicraft items to ensure appropriate returns to growers and producers.

He emphasized synergy among stakeholders for development of bamboo to generate employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled persons.

Nodal Officer JKSRLM was directed to rope in Self Help Groups, already constituted in four blocks of the district, in the Bamboo Mission and production of Handicraft products.
