Advisor Khan reviews functioning of Social Welfare Deptt

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05: Advisor to Governor, Farooq Khan Thursday chaired a meeting here to review functioning of various Boards and Corporations of Social Welfare Department.

During the meeting, the Advisor asked the Heads and other representatives of the Boards and Corporations to be dynamic and project their good work in a better way before the public.

He called for greater awareness about various welfare schemes being run by the Department so that people can avail their benefits.

JK State Women's Development Corporation, State Rehabilitation Council, State Social Welfare Board, State Commission for Protection of Women's and Child's Rights, State Advisory Board for Development of OBCs, State Advisory Board for Welfare and Development of Scheduled Castes, State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People were among the Boards and Corporations whose functioning came up for discussion during the meeting.

On the occasion, Advisor Khan sought reports from Heads about their respective Boards and Corporations regarding the present status of various schemes that are being run for the benefit of economically weaker and marginalized sections of the society.

The Advisor was briefed about various schemes that are being undertaken to empower women by helping them to establish their income generating units by providing soft loan at a very low rate of interest. It was also said that exhibitions and awareness camps are being regularly held to highlight various schemes that are being implemented for empowerment of women folk.

The meeting was also informed about the various training and skill development courses that are being run by Social Welfare Department for women, children and other needy people.
