DSS criticizes continuous ignorance of Jammu region during Governor’s rule
9/7/2019 10:11:29 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 7: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) president Gulchain Singh Charak, who is also convener of All Jammu Civil Society Forum, has appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to take on board the likeminded nationalist well meaning local leadership who have contributed positively moving across the party lines, in promoting communal harmony and projecting genuine aspirations of the people of this region.
He pointed out that application of the provisions of Articles 73/74 has been yet another step that will boost democracy at grass root level. Pointing out that although the Governor has made positive assurances yet the ground situation holds little promise to allay the apprehensions in the minds of people.
The prestigious Dogra Heritage Complex of Mubarak Mandi is deteriorating day by day and damages are seen after every rain fall. There is nothing visible on ground about the Hon.ble Governor placed Rs 65 Cr for renovation of the complex about a year back. Similarly projects like archives-repository where more than eight lakhs files are decaying, deplorable condition of Dogra Art Museum where several precious paintings, artifacts, books, weaponry and many other priceless items are being destroyed badly, Gondola has remained a dream only, for Jammuites, Tawi Lake is nowhere for which the huge funds have been gone down to the drain.
Condition of Doordarshan Kendra Jammu and All India Radio Jammu are in worst condition as what to talk of the infrastructure and the meager staff even the posts of directors of both these important institutions are lying vacant for the last so many years, even the Set Top Boxes provided to the border villages in Jammu region to focus across LoC do not cover the Doordarshan Jammu. The DD Kashmir programmes are not understood in this belt, either side of the LoC/IB. The need is to strengthen Doordarshan Kendra Jammu, and ensure its proper functioning and engage local producers and artists to produce programmes in the understood languages.
The position of power and water supply is dismaying. The water table even for sub-soil water supply is lowering in many areas of this region. The roads are in pathetic conditions even after suffering so many accidents and avoidable losses of precious lives. It appears that the Jammu region still continues to suffer official apathy as hitherto for the remedy lies in the equitable allocation of resources including funds and jobs opportunities to both the provinces of the state.
The recent announcement of the Governor of providing additional 50 thousand jobs is a welcome step. However, the president DSS demanded that these jobs be provided on regional bases and merit be worked out separately for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
He requested the Hon'ble governor to ease off restrictions in Jammu region, restore internet and mobile networks and release those political activists who have a clean nationalist record and are not likely to disturb the existing peace, law and order with amicability.
"I have seen your goodself in media recently witnessing in Ladakh fair end other programmes in Kashmir to preserve the identity and culture of these regions but it is quite disheartening that identity culture and heritage of this nationalist race, the patriot valiant Dogras is vanishing, even Jammu festival started after much struggle has become great joke, the way it is being organized", he said.
